71 GARFIELD
Located in Detroit’s Midtown neighborhood, 71 Garfield is an historic green apartment building renovation. This mixed-use residential/commercial 1920’s building features geothermal ground source heat pumps, solar and LED lighting, and rainwater runoff recapture.
Prior to renovation, the building suffered years of neglect, fire and minor structural damage. MEP gutted the building, reconstructed the roof joists, repaired masonry, built internal walls, installed new plumbing and HVAC systems, replaced windows and completed the finish work. Detroit Geothermal installed ground source heat pumps for geothermal heating and cooling. Trusted subcontractors replaced the roof, provided fireproofing and insulation, and installed drywall, electrical, and lighting systems.
The project was completed for Garfield Real Estate Properties, with architect Quinn Evans, as part of the multi-building Sugar Hill Arts District. |

Newberry Hall
This project will transform the historic Newberry Hall building into a twenty-eight unit rental residential building in one of the city’s most dynamic districts. Located in Detroit’s Medical Center, it involves the total rehabilitation of a vacant building which was originally constructed to provide housing for women nurses.
Detroit Geothermal, LLC will install a geothermal well-field to provide renewable energy heating and cooling to the building. Newberry Hall will add to the appeal of the Medical Center by providing new housing alternatives, while at the same time reviving one of the area’s most beautiful historical assets. |
